FOR TEXAS HOMEOWNERS · DFW & HOUSTON
You were told solar would end your power bill. Now you pay for both.
If your buyback deal changed, your extra solar may earn just pennies. Then, at night, you buy power again. A home battery can help.
FOR TEXAS HOMEOWNERS · DFW & HOUSTON
If you pay more than 14¢ per kWh, a guaranteed 14¢ rate may cover the battery fees.
That can mean about the same bill or less, plus a Duracell battery that keeps your lights on in an outage. No panels needed.

NO SOLAR? YOU CAN STILL QUALIFY.
No panels needed. Here’s how it works, in three steps.
If your electricity costs more than 14¢ per kWh, you’re paying battery-plan prices without the battery. Through Solrite you get a guaranteed 14¢ rate for up to 12 months, and the savings can cover the program’s monthly fees ($20 battery + $9.95 base fee). That can mean about the same bill or less, plus a Duracell battery that keeps your lights on in an outage.
Is your price per kWh over 14¢? See how to check below, or let us check it for you.
Through the program, your rate is 14¢ per kWh, guaranteed for up to 12 months.
$0 upfront, $20 a month plus the $9.95 base fee. When the grid goes down, your home can run on the battery.
IS MY RATE OVER 14¢?
Divide your electric bill by the kWh you used that month.
$160 ÷ 1,000 kWh = 16¢ per kWh
Over 14¢? You may qualify. The higher your rate and usage, the more the 14¢ rate saves. Your bill’s own base charge is already in this number.
WHAT THAT COULD MEAN EACH MONTH · EXAMPLE
Example based on 1,500 kWh a month at 18¢ all-in. At lower rates or usage, the savings may not cover the monthly fees. Your estimate shows your real numbers. Rates, fees, eligibility and program terms must be verified. Actual savings and backup duration vary.
Solrite owns the batteries. Solrite maintains and replaces them.
Program terms, in short: 20-year agreement. In Texas, you enroll with a Solrite-approved electricity provider, and leaving that provider early carries a penalty. The 14¢ rate is guaranteed for up to 12 months. Electric co-ops and city-owned utilities, including Austin Energy, aren’t eligible. See program terms
WHY IT’S HAPPENING
Here’s what happens at your house every day.
Your panels make more than your house can use.
The extra goes to the grid. Many buyback deals now pay pennies.
The sun sets. Your panels stop. You buy from the grid.
It’s like a lemonade stand. You’d lose money every day. That’s what’s happening to your solar.
It’s not just Texas. California, Illinois and Connecticut have cut what they pay for home solar, too. Wherever buyback shrinks, solar owners end up with two bills.
Texas has no statewide net metering law, so buyback rates depend on your provider and plan. 3¢ and 14¢ are example rates from the bill illustration below. Your bill or Electricity Facts Label shows your real numbers.
BEFORE YOU BUY MORE PANELS
Already making extra power by day? More panels make more daytime power. A battery saves some for night.
More panels: a bigger loan, and more power still sent out for pennies.
A battery: your own solar, saved for night.
THE FIX: A HOME BATTERY
Your extra solar fills the battery by day. Your home can use that stored power at night.
Solrite owns the batteries. Solrite maintains and replaces them.
Program terms, in short: 20-year agreement. In Texas, you enroll with a Solrite-approved electricity provider, and leaving that provider early carries a penalty. For solar you own or are paying to own (paid off, or with a solar loan). Leased solar and PPAs are rented, so they don’t qualify. Electric co-ops and city-owned utilities, including Austin Energy, aren’t eligible. See program terms
WHY DOES IT COST SO LITTLE?
At peak times, Solrite sends short bursts of stored power to help the grid. The grid pays for that help. That money helps fund the program.
You get full credit, too. When Solrite sends your battery energy to the grid, you get credit at the same rate you pay. Pay 19¢? You get 19¢. That’s 1:1.*
ILLUSTRATIVE MONTHLY EXAMPLE
Includes the battery fee. Does not include your solar loan or other charges.
Same 14¢/kWh purchase rate in both examples.
| Monthly bill breakdown | Solar only | Solar + battery |
|---|---|---|
| Nighttime grid purchases | 1,000 kWh | 100 kWh |
| Grid energy cost | $140 | $14 |
| Solar export credit | −$30 | $0 |
| Battery program fee | $0 | +$20 |
| Example monthly total | $110 | $34 |
Assumes 1,000 kWh of monthly surplus solar and 1,000 kWh of later demand. Solar-only export credit: 3¢/kWh. Battery returns 90% of stored solar: 900 kWh. No battery exports in this example. Other charges excluded.
*1:1 applies to eligible Solrite-directed battery exports, not all solar sent to the grid. See the full credit terms below.

GUIDES
In Texas, homes with retail electric choice can join: Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas and TNMP service areas. Electric co-ops and city-owned utilities (like Austin Energy or Pedernales Electric Co-op) aren’t eligible yet. We can confirm with your ZIP.
Yes. If your rate is over 14¢ per kWh, the program’s guaranteed 14¢ rate (for up to 12 months) can cover the monthly fees ($20 battery + $9.95 base fee), and you get a Duracell battery for backup power. Your savings depend on your rate and usage. Upload your bill for an instant estimate, or leave your info and a Hero will reach out.
Not right now. The battery program is for solar you own or are paying to own: paid off, or with a solar loan. If you have a loan, you keep making that payment as usual. Leased solar and PPAs are rented, so they can’t connect yet. Leave your info anyway; Solrite is keeping a list for when that changes.
$0 upfront and $20 a month for the battery, plus a $9.95 monthly base fee that every customer pays, with or without solar. The $20 battery fee covers monitoring, software, dispatch management and the hardware warranty, including battery replacements during the term. Rates, fees, eligibility and program terms must be verified for your home.
Yes. The battery program is a 20-year agreement, and in Texas your home enrolls with a Solrite-approved electricity provider. Leaving that provider early carries a penalty, because your battery’s grid work is what funds the discounted rate. A Hero will walk you through the agreement and Electricity Facts Label (EFL) before you sign.
No. Dispatches are short and a reserve is always kept for backup. Before severe weather, storm mode prioritizes a full charge.
The battery stores energy for use during grid outages. Backup coverage depends on system design, and actual backup duration varies.
The agreement transfers with the home. Solrite works with the buyer’s lender to make the transfer clean.
Your panels make the most power in the afternoon, when you’re using the least. The extra goes to the grid, and many buyback deals now pay only a few cents for it. At night you buy power back at the full rate. A battery lets you save that afternoon power and use it at night instead.
Usually not. More panels make more daytime power, and daytime is when you already have extra. The costly part of the bill happens at night. A Hero can look at your bill and show you where your money is going.
No. The battery is added to the solar you already have. We’ll check that your system and home are a fit.
Your battery joins a virtual power plant. During peak demand, Solrite uses short dispatches (30 seconds to 5 minutes) and other grid services. The grid pays for that help, and that revenue covers the equipment and funds your discounted rate.
Eligible, Solrite-directed battery exports receive a credit at the applicable plan’s per-kWh import rate, including per-kWh delivery. Direct solar exports do not qualify. Grid energy used to charge the battery is billed. See the full credit terms in the footer.
